Maine Coon Adoptions

California-based No-Kill Cat Rescue

Urgent Rescues

The kitties on this page are in urgent need of help. They are in shelters that do not have no-kill policies, or their owners can no longer care for them. We need to find foster homes or adoptive families for these sweet kitties immediately or they may be put down. If you are interested in adopting a Maine Coon mix, please consider one of these kitties. If you would like us to courtesy list an urgent kitty for you, please fill out and submit a courtesy post form.

MCA doesn't have enough foster space to rescue all of the kitties who need our help. If you can provide foster care for these kitties, even on a temporary basis, please e-mail mainecoonadoptions.apps@gmail.com.

Misty

***URGENT Misty [CP]

Hello! My name is Misty. Did you know that there is a book called “Misty of Chincoteague” about a pony born to a wild horse who learns to love living with a family? Well, I can understand that as I’m a kitty who enjoys both being with people and part of the family but also being independent. I’m hoping to find a safe indoor-outdoor environment where I can do that. I’m just about five years of age and have been able to have that kind of environment for most of my life. I would do things like meet my people in the driveway when they were coming home and even play fetch with a stick if they threw it. I am very athletic and also enjoy jumping very high if you have a toy on a stick. Sometimes, when I’m in the mood, I will also curl up in your lap. I have figured out how to get along with other dogs and cats and even children – but unfortunately my mom can’t keep me with her and I am having trouble with some neighbors in my temporary home so need to find a new situations soon so that they don’t take me to the SPCA. If you would like to learn more, contact Janet and she can tell you all about me.

Artie

**URGENT Artie [CP]

Artie is partially sighted, and small for a Maine Coon. Because of his sight, he is not able to be outdoors. Artie came from a hoarder, and was born partially sighted. He does not always judge where walls are when he's running and playing. Artie also tends to breathe hard in cold winter. He came from a snowy location, and does prefer the warmth of the Bay Area. Artie does like to play, sit in his cat tree, and take naps. He loves to snuggle on laps and in blankets. He has never been around dogs for long, but when he has, he runs and hides. He would not do well in a house with dogs. He loves kids though. He's lived most of his life with other cats, but would also do well in a home as an only pet, as he loves to think he is the only pet! Also, when Artie is cold, he likes to wear a sweater. For some reason, he seems to find it soothing. He's done it since he was a kitten, and really enjoys it. We don't know why.Check out his video: http://youtu.be/dbPa3vlkESM

Jack & Mia

**URGENT Jack & Mia [CP]

Hello! We are Jack and Mia, two sweet kitties in need of a new forever home because someone in our home has developed severe allergies. Our mom, who has raised us from seven weeks of age until our current nine years (which is just entering middle age for us kitties), loves us very much and wants to find a wonderful home for us – hopefully together or at the very least in homes without other kitties. We both like attention from our people a lot so would do well in a home where we are not left alone for really long amounts of time (i.e., more than 12 hours a day). Here’s a little information on each of us:

Prue

**URGENT Prue [CP]

Hello! My name is Prue and I’m a sweet girl who is looking for a new home because my family is moving in with the in-laws and they’re allergic to cats. I’ve been much loved all 11 years of my life (which is just middle aged for us kitties) and am sure to bring much love to my new home as well. I’m an independent girl but love to be given attention. I enjoy being cuddled and will purr like crazy when my neck and head are massaged. I’m an indoor kitty but enjoy the occasional step onto the balcony or in a big window to sunbathe. I also love jumping into open boxes to take a nap. I am very personable and enjoy greeting my people at the door and give you a little rub on the leg to let you know I’m happy to see you. I am also a good conversationalist and will let you know when I need something. Like most kitties, I’m particularly fond of catnip and kitty treats – my favorite flavor is tuna. I have lived with other cats, dogs and small children so am adaptable to almost any situation. I’m a very special girl and my mom is hoping to find me a home as soon as possible so contact her if you’d like to learn more about me.

Simon

**URGENT Simon [CP]

Simon is a Bengal/tabby mix who loves people. He will follow people around and talk to them. If you sneeze or cough, of if another cat does, he will meow back. He is very talkative. Although he is a Bengal, and he can be full of energy like some can be, but also loves to lay around. He loves to sit in the window and bird watch. He likes to chase flies, although he doesn't know what to do with them when he catches them. He is bonded to our brown Maine Coon Truman, and loves to get bathed by him, or just lay right next to him. He has a loud purr, and seems to bond with one person more than an entire family. Although he does love to play with my kids, he is more bonded with me.  He does like attention. He would love to be adopted with Truman, but would also do okay alone, although he will have to adjust to losing his family and his "mother" cat. Simon really does love talking to you. I have a video I sent in showing how much he loves to converse. And he just loves to follow people around the house. Simon is litter box trained, indoors only, and came from a shelter. Here is his video: http://youtu.be/MLMLBPt0Km4

Truman

**URGENT Truman [CP]

Truman is a purebred Maine Coon who has been declawed on the front, and is unable to be outdoors as he cannot defend himself. He is a gentle-natured kitty, and loves to sit on laps, follow people around. He's very loving. He likes to play hide-and-seek by putting his head down into boxes, his cat bed, whatever is around. He thinks if he can't see you, you can't see him. He has not been around dogs too often. He will hide if dogs come in the house, and gets scared. He would not do well in a house with dogs. He loves kids and other cats. But he is gentle-natured, and would not do well with a bossy cat. He has "raised" our Bengal/tabby, as well as a foster litter of five kitties. Our Bengal mix kitty thinks Truman is his mother. They are very bonded, but could possibly be separated.
Truman is litter box trained, as he is indoors only.  He came from a shelter, and has a history of a tragic beginning that I can relay to their next owner. He has been in my care most of his life. Truman just wants to be loved and return love. Here is his video:
