Urgent Kitty Rescues!

Updated July 30, 2010

The kitties on this page are in urgent need of help. They are in shelters that do not have no-kill policies, or their owners can no longer care for them. We need to find foster homes or adoptive families for these sweet kitties immediately or they may be put down. If you are interested in adopting a Maine Coon mix, please consider one of these kitties.

MCA doesn't have enough foster space to rescue all of the kitties who need our help. If you can provide foster care for these kitties, even on a temporary basis, please e-mail elaineln@pacbell.net

Click the pictures to see each kitty's adoption flyer.

Prima & Pretzel

Hi everybody! We're Prima and Pretzel, two one-year-old sisters who were part of a large group of rescued kitties in Paso Robles. We helped each other through the whole rescue thing and have really bonded (as you can see from our photos), so it would be great if we could find a home together. Prima is the more affectionate one and especially enjoys helping when someone is working at the computer. She enjoys getting brushed and doesn't even mind having her nails trimmed. Pretzel is a little shy but is sometimes more daring in her explorations around the house. Once she accepts you, though, she will roll over to let you know it's okay to rub her belly, which she loves. She is also okay with grooming. We are both very sweet and affectionate but haven't gotten any real attention lately. Neither of us have been outdoor kitties, so we're quite happy in the house. Is there room in your house for us?

Milo

My name is Milo. I'm about a year old, but here's a photo of what I looked like as a kitten cute as a bug in a rug, right? Well, I'm still gorgeous a beauty to observe, I've been told. I have loving eyes and am very friendly and affectionate. Lately the chaos in my house has made me a little skittish, but when I have time with people, I'm very affectionate, love to be scratched and petted, and am OK with being picked up. I can be rather independent and often act like a big brother to the younger girls in my family (yes, that involves teasing). Again, I'm a real beauty and am not handling my current crazy environment very well, but in a calm environment I will thrive and come around to being the best buddy a human could have.

Contra Costa Kitties

We are just a few of the wonderful cats at Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez and Petsmart in Concord that DESPERATELY need to get out. The shelter is overcrowded and it is euthanizing kitties, and we don’t want that to happen to us! We’ve been selected as kitties who have particularly wonderful temperaments. Please help us find a way out, even if it’s just a temporary home it would be a help. We’re all fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Here’s some more info about us (in our own words):

  • Tammy (#A605011 at Martinez shelter): I’m a little girl of about two years of age with gorgeous tortie coloring. I’m EXTREMELY affectionate and loving and get along well with other cats.
  • Donnie (#A616884 at Martinez shelter): I’m a young adult (5 years) who’s handsome, friendly, and okay with other kitties.
  • Starlett (#A612833 at Petsmart in Concord): I’m a very sweet girl, and I have been told I’m incredibly beautiful. I adore being brushed and petted and am just adorable in general. I’m also okay with other cats.
  • Electra (#A613570 (at Petsmart in Concord): I am a Maine Coon mix with gorgeous calico coloring and I’ve got a purrrrsonality to match! I am only two years of age and adore attention and being brushed. I’m also okay with other kitties.

To learn more about us, please contact the Martinez shelter at 925-335-8300 or asdweb@asd.cccounty.us

Hanna

My name is Hanna. I’m a gorgeous kitty who just needs a little love and understanding. Here’s the deal: I was left with two other kitties at the Berkeley public shelter. I was then adopted out twice. The first time it was into a house with a kitty who did not like me (why, I don’t know, as I consider myself a likeable gal). The second time, the person didn’t wait for me to adjust and brought me back after only a couple days because I was crying in my safe room. I am a sweetheart and wonderful lap cat who loves affection; I just need a little patience and time to adjust. I’m only five years old and have a lot of love to give the right person. My fur is so soft it feels like rabbit fur (grooming is very important to me). I love to swish around my plume of a tail and even play with it occasionally. I really am a great girl, but because I’ve been returned twice (even though it wasn’t my fault) it doesn’t look good for me here at the shelter. I need at least a temporary home as soon as possible. Can you help?

Manteca Kittens

Woo hoo! Hellooooo!!! We are the kittens of Manteca. Kind of sounds like a great book or movie, huh? Like The Man of La Mancha, it’s The Kittens of Manteca. Except that we’re not fictional characters, we are real kittens in need of homes. We’re in the Manteca Animal Shelter, which is very crowded so we need to find homes as soon as possible. There are four of us on this ad, but there are even more kittens here, so if you’re looking for a kitten, get yourself down to the Manteca Animal Shelter or give them a call or an email to let them know. We’re all litterbox trained. Here’s more info on the four of us:

  • Claire and Felix are very friendly, playful 10-week-olds ready for a new home.
  • Annie is a gorgeous, 9-month-old, long-hair Flamepoint Siamese who needs a loving home soon! She is very friendly and loves attention.
  • Colin is an adorable kitten who needs a rescue group to come get him. At 7 weeks, he is too young to be adopted, so if you are a rescue group with room for little Colin, please contact Manteca Animal Shelter. He is very friendly.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you soon!  To learn more about us, please contact contact Manteca Animal Shelter at 209-239-8480 or animalservices@ci.manteca.ca.us

Magnificent Males

Hey everybody! We’re the Magnificent Males of Manteca! If you sing a few bars, we’ll even do a dance. Well, OK, we won’t do a dance but we will play and snuggle and love love love you if you give us a new home. The shelter is full, so we need one SOON (I think you know what that means)! Allow us to introduce ourselves:

  • Cody is a handsome Manx-Maine Coon guy with brown tabby fur and little white mittens. He is very loving, adores being scratched, and gives head-butts.
  • Henry and Kaelan came to the shelter from the same home. Henry is a very friendly Manx-Maine Coon with luxurious gray fur, and Kaelan is a stunning Lynx Point Siamese. Both Henry and Kaelan are neutered and declawed, and both get on well with other cats.
  • Zeke is a very loving, young adult male with a plush brown tabby coat and white belly, socks, and nose stripe. He has been neutered, and he’s ready to walk out of the shelter and into your home…and your heart!

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to get a Magnificent Male of Manteca into your life!  To learn more about us, please contact contact Manteca Animal Shelter at 209-239-8480 or animalservices@ci.manteca.ca.us

Lathrop Lovelies

Hi everybody! We’re the Lathrop Lovelies! That means we’re from Lathrop and, well, we’re LOVELY. I mean, look at us! Thing is, we’re stuck in the animal shelter, which is not a great place for a lovely to be, and we hope that you can help us find new homes. We are all spayed/neutered and oh-so-ready for a permanent home where we can show our love and playfulness and all the other great things that come with having a kitty in the house.

  • Pig Pen is a long-hair, gray tabby baby boy (cute as a button!).
  • Zilla is a baby girl with medium-length, gray-and-white fur.
  • Lil Pip is a little pipsqueak of a domestic short hair baby girl.
  • Magic is a young domestic short hair with gorgeous, silky black fur.
  • Monte is a young male with short hair and great buff/orange coloring.
  • Blackie has, well, black fur, but with beautiful highlights. He’s an adult male, so you won’t have to deal with any kitten stuff.

Interested? You can call or email to find out more information on our personalities. Anyway, call or write soon! We’re running out of time and need help getting out of here. Thank you!

Georgeous George

Hello, my name is George. There have been many famous Georges: George Washington, George Costanza, Curious George. Well, you can add my name to the list, and that’s Gorgeous George. Unfortunately, some of us black kitties – even the gorgeous ones – are kind of overlooked, and that happened to me at the Lake County animal shelter, a rural shelter in Northern California. Luckily a rescue group came in and got me out at the last minute as they had found a loving family who wanted to adopt me, but then my tests came back as FeLV positive (although I am negative for FIV). Thing is, we positive kitties can still live long, healthy lives, but it probably would be best if I found a home where I was the only kitty or lived with another kitty who had tested positive. Otherwise, I’m in good health, am current on shots, neutered, and ready for a new home. I am a big, solid boy at 12 pounds and quite mellow and talkative. Here’s how great a companion I am: I’d rather be petted and have a good long chat with you than eat. I’m just that sweet and loving -- or, you might say, my gorgeous personality matches my looks. I am currently in Oakland, but transportation is available if you’re interested in me.

Smokey

My name is Smokey and, before you even think it, no, I’m not a cop chasing after a bandit (for those of you old enough to remember that movie), nor am I a bear. What I am is a gorgeous senior kitty whose person died recently, leaving me without a home. I’m part Maine Coon and all love bug. I purr and purr and love to be petted and combed. If you are watching TV or reading, I will want to nap on your lap or right next to you. While I am a senior citizen, at 17 years of age, my health is superb –- the vet said it was the best senior blood work he’d ever seen. I have been declawed, so I will need to be an indoor cat. I’m in a foster home in Santa Rosa, but I would really like a forever home. I get along with other cats, but I’m a one-person kind of guy and would prefer a home where I could be a true companion to my person. Will it be with you?

Mori & Kyo

Hello. We are Kyo and Mori, two six-year-old boys (but not brothers!) who need a new home because our owners are moving to Japan and will be living in housing that does not accept cats (not even cats with Japanese names, alas).

Kyo is very loving and playful and also very independent – not a clingy dude – with a bit of an alpha male demeanor. He’s okay with me (Mori) because I’m adorable and because I am a big Maine Coon mix who weighs 19 pounds, but would probably not get along well with other cats (or dogs or young children) as he does like to be the boss. He cracks me up when he sits on ledges and posts around the house and thinks he’s so much taller than everybody else. As his best friend for six years, I am probably biased, but I think he’s got a fascinating personality and would make a great match with someone who likes their cats to have a little character. He loves chasing things around the house, and when he’s happy, he kneads. He also likes scratching posts and is careful to use them and not people’s furniture or belongings.

Now I, Mori, am more of a sweet lap cat kinda guy – especially if you like your lap cats on the hefty side. I can be a little shy at first, but get along with everybody and would truly be content to just sit in or by a lap all day. I also enjoy scratching posts, comfy pillows, and lying on socks. I have a feline urinary track disorder, but I’m fine as long as I have my special food. Otherwise, I’m extremely low maintenance – even my long hair doesn’t need a lot of brushing. I’d be okay with other kitties that are mellow like me, but probably not with dogs. It would be great if I could be adopted with my buddy Kyo, as we get along so well and are used to each other. Oh, and I almost forgot: when I’m especially happy, I flop over on my back with my paws curled and purr like crazy. I sure hope Kyo and I get to do that in a new home soon, and I know my owners would appreciate it as well because they really love us. If you would like more information, you can call or e-mail Jessica at the information above and below.

Rita

My name is Rita, of “Lovely Rita Meter Maid” fame (it’s a Beatles song for you young types). I’m a bit of a young type myself, at about nine months to a year old, and I’ve found myself in a most distressing situation – in a noisy shelter. I’m confused and quite afraid and in need of someone to spring me. I’ve been told I look like I’m an Abyssinian mix and have lovely short brown-ticked tabby fur. I also have an incredibly soulful face. It’s a face that says: Please, cat-savvy person, can’t you take me home with you to a quiet home with no other animals (I’m quite afraid of dogs) or small children? If you do, I will reward you with years and years of love and companionship and a lot of happiness for both of us. Although I am quite stressed out, I have shown some interest in toys so once I am in a safe environment will most likely be quite playful and active and will make sure to show you how appreciative I am that you got me out. I am spayed, microchipped, tested negative and up to date on all my shots. In short, I’m REALLY ready for my new home so please call Martha at the information above and below as soon as possible!

Kings County Kitties

Hi everybody! We’re the Kings County kitties! Kind of sounds like a theater group but really it’s five of us who’ve found ourselves in a high-kill shelter. We’re all fixed and healthy – and, if it would help us get out of here, we’d be happy to put on a show for you. Here are the characters:

  • Heather: I am just over a year old with very pretty tortoiseshell, mediumlength hair. I have been at the shelter since March because I am a little shy at first, but I am truly affectionate once I get to know you. I get along with other kitties and am pretty mellow. I am healthy, spayed, and really ready to go home with the right person.
  • Miss Kitty: I am four years old and, like Heather, a little shy and scared in my current surroundings, but I will blossom in a home with loving care, especially if I am the only kitty. I am spayed, declawed (that means I need to be an indoor kitty), and ready for adoption.
  • Tommy Boy: I am four years old and a mighty hunter! My previous family gave me up because I was killing birds, but there’s more to me than that. I have a very sweet personality too and will capture your heart if you take me home.

Barnaby

My name is Barnaby. You all are probably too young to remember but there was a TV show called “Barnaby Jones” about an older guy who runs a detective agency with his daughter. Well, I’m in my senior years as well – 15 years of age. Not only that but I’m suffering from a ruptured ligament on one of my legs that had not been diagnosed before – essentially I’ve been in a lot of pain and limping around for five years. But despite my pain, I’m a nice friendly boy who really enjoys having my head petted. And I recently found a place at the BrightHaven foster home where they are going to fix my leg, even though the surgery will cost around $1200. It is going to make all the difference to my life but it will deplete their medical fund quite a bit. If you would like to help me out, you can donate to BrightHaven at http://ssl.sonic.net/gailpope/donations/ (donations are tax deductible). OR, if you would like to adopt me once my leg is fixed up, you can contact Susan at 415-359-4113 or by email at crc_rescue@yahoo.com

Antioch Kitties

Hi everybody! We are the Antioch kitties. What that means is that we are all wonderful kitties at the Antioch shelter. You see, the shelter is overwhelmed right now and they have to get us kitties out so that nothing bad happens (and we all know what that means, right?). If you’re not in the area, that’s okay, transport is available and, again, even if you can just foster, that will help buy extra time for some of the other kitties. We are all fixed and up to date on our shots. If you’d like more information on each of us separately, here you go:

  • Luciano is a handsome, long-haired black-and-white cat around two years of age. He loves to be petted and loves attention. He is easy going and will adjust easily to a new home.
  • Chloe is a five-year-old tortie. She loves to roam around and would love to be out of her cage. She is a very sweet kitty who just wants to be loved.
  • Holly is a two-year-old, medium-haired, black female. She LOVES being held and is a total sweetheart. She is the calmest kitty around and would be great with kids.

To learn more about us, please contact Ashley at athenesan@aol.com or 805-807-5402

Popper & Motown

Hi there! We are two sweet brothers in search of a new home after our owner surrendered us due to financial difficulties. We’re both about nine years of age and very loving. We have been together for all of our nine years so it would be super duper if we could find a home together – but if we have to go separately in order to find a new loving home, that would be okay. Popper is the most Maine Coon looking of the two of us. He weighs about 12 pounds and has long brown tabby fur. Popper is big on taking naps (who isn’t, right?) but when he’s awake he enjoys rubbing against his person’s legs and getting petted and having his ear scratched. He likes toys (including the laser) but really prefers playing with a person to playing all by himself. Motown has beautiful black hair and is a more petite nine pounds. He also really loves hanging out with people and playing and being held and cuddled and is a great lap cat. Both of us are very affectionate and not the type to hiss or scratch and are even good with other kitties (we’re not sure about dogs only because we haven’t met many).
